What is moving the indium price

A calm market in a controlled metal

China put indium under export restriction in February 2025. USGS cites Asian Metal data showing unwrought indium exports down 72% year on year from September 2024 to September 2025. Even so, USGS records the annual average US warehouse price at $370–390 per kg in 2025 (the table and text differ), up 11% from 2024, with a June high of $408 per kg.

Reference price against the Argus series

Argus puts the US warehouse price at $351 per kg in 2024 and the Rotterdam price at $311. The $851 reference price is about 2.2 times the USGS 2025 range, a small-lot premium rather than a divergent market, with +2.11% year to date.

Demand is displays plus optical communications

Indium tin oxide (ITO) remains the largest end use. USGS flags indium phosphide for 5G and AI optical networking as a growth driver, in lasers, receivers and photodetectors, and indium solders in data-centre electrical components.
